Refreshing Vegan Thai Iced Tea
Could you do with bringing in a little more meditation in your life? Yes, that’s rhetorical. There are exceptions (thinking, Tibetan monks on mountaintops), but most of us could do with more moments of calm these days. And while this post doesn’t provide any guidance on fitting in meditation whatsoever, here’s a delicious simple step toward incorporating a little bit of peace.
They aren’t exactly a gateway to mindfulness practice, but aren’t beverages lovely in the meditative qualities they carry? They are such a natural invitation to stop for a moment, maybe smell the roses in between slow sips. Try to rush it, and the body is quick in its response. I rely on these subtle reminders to sloooow down, if just for seconds, and this aromatic drink is a gorgeous one.
Brimming with warm, fragrant spices yet refreshingly cool, this Thai Iced Tea Recipe is perfect for ushering and basking in warmer weather. You can use any good black tea, but I like therobust base ORGANIC INDIA Tulsi Breakfast tea provides for this tantalizingly creamy concoction hailing from Thailand. While the popular drink is typically loaded with sugar, a splash of pure maple syrup or agave nectar (or even nothing at all) in this lightened-up version is all you need for a heady touch of sweetness that lets the rich, natural flavors truly shine.
A classic Thai Iced Tea derives its characteristic orange hue from food coloring. Instead, try incorporating a touch of Turmeric. Lauded for promoting joint health. Turmeric is also known for supporting the immune system, a healthy inflammatory response, and more. Feels and tastes like luxury—not the privileged, ostentatious kind that kind of oozes depending on the context, but the kind worth lingering over in appreciation. Happy almost Fri-yay, everyone! xo
Vegan Thai Iced Tea
2 servings
2 Cups boiled water
2 ORGANIC INDIA Tulsi Breakfast Tea Infusions, or black tea of choice
1 piece star anise
1 cinnamon stick
2 Tablespoons agave or maple syrup, or to taste
½ Teaspoon vanilla extract
¼ Teaspoon ORGANIC INDIA Turmeric Formula (optional, for a hint of that burnt orange color)
1 Cup canned coconut milk, or other rich plant milk of choice
In a small saucepan steep ORGANIC INDIA Tulsi Breakfast tea bags in boiled water with the star anise and cinnamon stick for at least ten minutes.
Remove tea bags and whisk in agave or maple syrup, and vanilla.
Whisk in ¼ Cup of the coconut milk as well. Let chill in the refrigerator for several hours.
When ready to serve, fill glasses generously with ice cubes. Pour tea over ice, then top with remaining coconut milk.
