Refreshing Vegan Thai Iced Tea

Brimming with warm, fragrant spices yet refreshingly cool, this Thai Iced Tea Recipe is perfect for ushering and basking in warmer weather!

Could you do with bringing in a little more meditation in your life? Silly question, really, because unless you’re a Tibetan monk, I’m guessing the answer is probably a resounding yes? Most of us could do with more moments of calm these days. And while this post won’t offer any guidance on meditation, here’s a delicious simple step toward incorporating a little bit of peace.

They aren’t exactly a gateway to mindfulness practice, but aren’t beverages lovely in the meditative qualities they carry? They are such a natural invitation to stop for a moment, maybe smell the roses in between slow sips. Try to rush it, and the body is quick in its response. I rely on these subtle reminders to sloooow down, if just for seconds, and this aromatic drink is a gorgeous one.

What’s wondrous about this tea?

Tulsi Power

You can use any good black tea, but I like the robust base ORGANIC INDIA Tulsi Breakfast tea, which harnesses the power oif aromatic Ayurvedic herb Tulsi, provides for this tantalizingly creamy concoction hailing from Thailand. Known in India as the “Queen of Herbs”, Tulsi has been recognized for over 5,000 years for its ability to grant health and renewal. Increasingly, modern science verifies Tulsi’s beneficial qualities, including its support in providing stress relief, promoting immune health, aiding in the natural detoxification process, and more.

Natural Sweetners
While the popular drink is typically loaded with sugar, a splash of pure maple syrup or agave nectar (or even nothing at all) in this lightened-up version is all you need for a heady touch of sweetness that lets the rich, natural flavors truly shine.

Golden Turmeric
A classic Thai Iced Tea derives its characteristic orange hue from food coloring. Instead, try incorporating a touch of Turmeric . Lauded for promoting joint health. Turmeric is also known for supporting the immune system, a healthy inflammatory response, and more. I love, love Organic India’s Turmeric Formula supplement.

All in all, this vegan Thai Iced Tea feels and tastes like luxury—not the privileged, ostentatious kind, but something worth lingering over in appreciation. Enjoy, friends! xo

Brimming with warm, fragrant spices yet refreshingly cool, this Thai Iced Tea Recipe is perfect for basking in warmer weather. Replacing typical food coloring for the characteristic orange color with Turmeric adds golden, anti-inflammatory benefits, too!

Ingredients

  • 2 Cups boiled water
  • 2 black tea bags (I love Organic India Breakfast or Assam Black)
  • 1 piece star anise
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 Tablespoons agave or maple syrup, or to taste
  • ½ Teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ Teaspoon ground Turmeric (optional, for a hint of that burnt orange color--I love Organic India Turmeric Formula)
  • 1 Cup canned light coconut milk, or other rich plant milk of choice

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan steep tea bags in boiled water with the star anise and cinnamon stick for at least ten minutes.
  2. Remove tea bags and whisk in agave or maple syrup, and vanilla.
  3. Whisk in ¼ Cup of the coconut milk as well. Let chill in the refrigerator for several hours.
  4. When ready to serve, fill glasses generously with ice cubes. Pour tea over ice, then top with remaining coconut milk.
