Soothing blue(berry) moon milk
Heads up, and eyes to the skies, Colorado friends, there’s a blood moon tonight! It’s the first time in three years we’re seeing a total lunar eclipse, the kind that gives the moon a blood-red glow. I’m hoping it inspires an inner glow of peace, hope, and perspetive, or at least something more harmonious than the jittery perpetual anxiety that seems to be the new normal these days. I’ll certainly do my best to propel a sense of serenity—with moon milk.
You don’t need a bloog-red moon to complement cherished moon rituals and set up for a good night’s sleep. Any night is a lovely time for this whimsically cozy, plant-based blue moon milk! Incorporating fresh blueberries and herbalTulsi tea adds antioxidant properties, delightful fruity notes, and floral fragrance to this lovely take on the classic. Better yet, whisking in Organic India Shatavari lends restorative, balancing support perfect for unwinding while breathing in the peaceful night sky.
What is moon milk?
It may sound a little woo-woo, but moon milk is has longstanging traditional roots. A staple soothing beverage in Ayurveda, it’s a blend of milk and herbs considered an elixir to promote rest. While dairy may boast sleep-inducing tryptophan contained in cow’s milk, warm plant milks most certainly have the same calming effect, particularly in a serene concoction like this one. The antioxidant action of blueberries have been shown to be beneficial in supporting sleep quality melatonin; they even contain small amounts of melatonin, the hormone aiding in sleep. Organic India Shatavari completes the package for inner balance and peace.
An Ayurvedic herbal supplement for women that supports healthy hormone function, Shatavari is best known for supporting women’s wellness and vitality; though it is also associated with supporting men’s health with all-around hormonal support and balance. Considered a rasayana and adaptogen, Shatavari rejuvenates the spirit, relaxes the mind, and fortifies the body, making it a beautiful inclusion in this blissful beverage. That said, you can also go with Ashwagandha, a more traditional inclusion, or leave out supplements altogether for tranquil results.
Last night, I didn’t sleep so well, due to a combination of full moon, hormones, and busy brain. Tonight, I’m ready to set up better relaxation. Cozying up with a cup of calm is a small thing, but as we know, small things are significant. Keep leaning into the goodness, spread kindness, rest up, and share your glow.
